Police arrested a Cambodian-suspected-drug trafficker and seized more than 13 kilos of mixed drugs

  Buth Reaksmey Kongkea Police on March 25, 2023 arrested a gang man and seized more than 13 kilograms of mixed drugs from him in Phnom Penh. The municipal anti-drug police officer named the suspect as Nouv Sok, 42, living in Chbar Ampov district.   He said that the suspect was arrested at about 5 pm on Friday while he was transporting drugs in the Chbar Ampov commune.  He added that after his arrest, police seized more than 13 kilograms of ice, MDMA and Ketamine-weighing more than 13 kilogram, 1 Toyota High Lander car and other related drug materials from him.                

Ex-Kampong Chhnang senior police officer loses appeal

Buth Reaksmey Kongkea   A former senior police officer Friday had his conviction upheld by the Phnom Penh Appeal Court for allegedly grabbing more than 30 hectares of flooded forest land, in Zone 3, in the vicinity of Tonle Sap Lake in Kampong Leng district between 2011 and 2021. Presiding Judge Yun Narong named the accused as Keo Narun, 60, former colonel and police officer and former Chief of Provincial Police of the Interventions Department in Kampong Chhnang city. “The Judges’ Council of the Phnom Penh Appeal Court upheld the conviction of the accused Keo Narun because the council took into consideration that his conviction was already reduced by the lower court. Bid to arrest nine ex-CNHP steering committee members

  Buth Reaksmey Kongkea   The police are seeking to arrest nine members of the steering committee of the Cambodia National Heart Party (CNHP) for falsifying fingerprints in order to form the CNHP in 2021. Internal Security Office Deputy Chief Lieutenant Colonel Kim Piseth in the Ministry of Interior told Khmer Times yesterday that the search for their arrest was made in accordance with the court warrants issued by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court’s Judge Ms. Chum Sangvar.   “So far, four people had been arrested in accordance with the court’s warrant and have been sent to prison to serve the term of their sentence,” Lt. Col. Piseth said. “Police now are seeking to arrest the other accused who had been at large,” he said.   Lt. Col. 30 years in jail for man who killed his partner’s ex-husband

Buth Reaksmey Kongkea The Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday sentenced a construction worker to 30 years in prison for stabbing his partner’s former husband to death for reuniting with her.   The incident happened at about 7 pm on September 11, 2022, on the outskirts of Phnom Penh; and the accused was arrested on three days later on September 14.   Presiding Judge Thvam Bunna named the accused as 30-year-old Nem Samart, a construction worker living in Preak Leap commune; and the victim as In Sokthy, 29, another construction worker living in the same commune. “The court also orders him to pay about $10,000 in compensation to the victim’s family,” he said. The court sentenced the accused on charges of premeditated murder under Article 200 of the Criminal Code. During yesterday's hearing, he confessed to stabbing the victim to death because got angry with the victim for rekindling a relationship with his girlfriend named Ny Sokhom, a living-together partner for five years.

Duo jailed 30 years each for drugs

                                           Buth Reaksmey Kongkea   A Vietnamese and a Cambodian were jailed 30 years each for trafficking in 25kgs of various drugs in 2021.   Accusations against a third suspect who was jointly charged with the duo, a 71-year-old Singaporean, were dropped by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday.   Presiding Judge Sar Samnang said the court that Goh Seow Sian said the court found that Goh Seow Sian was not involved in the drug activities and ordered his release from prison.   Goh was jointly with Vietnamese Ly Chaong Phong, 29, and Taing Lak,  62 for drug possession, trafficking and production under Articles 39 and 40 of Cambodian Law on Drug Control. “The Phnom Penh Municipal Court finds Taing Lak and Ly Chaong Phong guilty of the charges and sentence them 30 years in prison each and a fine of 80 million Riel ($20,000) each.    “There is no guilt for the accused Goh Seow Sian. 2 former opposition activists jailed for posting provocative messages related to the image of His Majesty the King

Buth Reaksmey Kongkea   Phnom Penh Municipal Court on March 22, 2023 charged and detained two former opposition activists for posting provocative messages on social media related to the image of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni.   According to the court’s document issued by the investigating judge Yi Sok-vouch, the two accused were identified as Yim Sinan, 40;  and Hun Kosal, 41.   They both are former activists of the dissolved-Cambodian National Rescued Party ( CNRP).   They both were charged with “insulting the King and inciting to commit felony”  under articles 437, 494 and 495 of criminal codes.     If convicted, they face a jail term from 1 to 5 years each.    They were arrested on March 21. They were arrested after they had posted on social media, using an image of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni and posting provocative messages like “According to the voices of the people…today we can clearly see who is the real king of the earth.”

Buth Reaksmey Kongkea   Phnom Penh Municipal Police’s Spokesman Brigadier General San Sokseiha said that two former opposition activists were arrested on the evening of March 21, 2023 after posting provocative messages on social media related to the image of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni. Bri.Gen. Sokseiha named the two suspects as Yim Sinan and Hun Kosal.   They both are former activists of the dissolved-Cambodian National Rescued Party ( CNRP). Supreme Court upheld the sentencing of an old Singaporean man for trafficking nearly 2 kg of a mixture of various drugs

Buth Reaksmey Kongkea    The Supreme Court on March 20, 2023 upheld the sentencing of an old Singaporean man who was sentenced by the lower court to 25 years in prison in connection with drug production, possession and trafficking of nearly two kilogrammes of a mixture of various drugs committed from 2014 to 2020 in Phnom Penh.                                                                          Presiding Judge Nil Nonn named the convict as Kee Beng Hwa, 73, a Singaporean national and a former introducer at a casino in Phnom Penh.   Judge Nonn said that Kee Beng Hwa was sentenced on November 25, 2020 by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court to 25 years in prison and fined of 50 million Riels (about $12,400).    He was charged with “drug use, possessing, drug trafficking and produce” under Articles 39, 40 and 45 of the Cambodian Law on Drug Control. Police arrested a Chinese national and seized 3,224 kg of ice in Phnom Penh

Buth Reaksmey Kongkea   Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday (on March 19, 2023) charged and detained a Chinese suspected man for possessing and trafficking more than three kilograms of ice in the capital. Anti-Drug Police Officer Major Nuon Sothearith  in the Ministry of Interior told the Khmer Times yesterday that the accused was identified as Liu Zhao, 39, the Chinese national.  Maj. Buth Reaksmey Kongkea    A fortune-teller with the title of Oknha (Tycoon) was arrested on Tuesday and charged by the Kampong Cham provincial court for illegal possession of weapons without authorisation, in addition to his previous charge of defrauding a women for $200,000.    Kampong Cham Provincial Penal Police Deputy Chief Colonel Song Vannarith named the accused as Oknha Im Bros alias Krou Sel (or Magic Master), 56, a  fortune-teller and traditional Khmer healer from Kampong Siem district. Major Mom Sarim, the municipal anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection police officer, said that the four suspects were arrested at a guesthouse in Por Senchey district’s Kakab I commune. Maj Sarim said that according to the police’s investigations and the victims’ complaints, in January this year, the four suspects, who claimed that they were the representatives of a Korean-based-recruitment agency, who advertised job opportunities in South Korea across the county. According to their advertisement, those recruited would receive a salary of $1,500 per month, however, they had to pay $1,000 upfront for arranging travel docume
