Notorious ‘Buffalo’ wanted for attempted murder

Buth Reaksmey Kongkea   Police are searching for a former military police officer who is also a timber merchant. He is accused of shooting and injuring a woman following an altercation with her, allegedly after she refused his affections.   The attempted murder took place at 1 am on April 24 at a shop belonging to the victim located in Sen Monorom city, Mondulkiri province.   Mondulkiri provincial police Chief Major General Lor Sokha named the accused as Ros Puthea, alias ‘Krabei’ (Buffalo), 40. The former military officer lived in Spean Meanchey district of Sen Monorom city.   Maj Gen Sokha named the victim as Chorn Sovanneth also known as Za, 25. She is a hairdresser and lotion vendor living in the same village as the suspect.   He said that at about 1 am after midnight on April 24 the suspect entered the victim’s house while she was sleeping alone.  After entering, the suspect fired a shot at the victim’s right breast, causing serious injuries. He fled at midnight.   H

President and members of Coalition of Cambodian Farmer Community charged with incitement

  Buth Reaksmey Kongkea   Ratanakiri Provincial Court on Saturday charged and detained three senior officers from the Coalition of Cambodian Farmers Community Association (CCFA). The three men were charged with incitement, after allegedly leading farmers to defy the government and calling for a farmers’ revolution.   Ratanakkiri provincial police Deputy Chief Colonel Teng Saroeun named the three accused men as Theng Savoeun, president of CCFA; and Nhel Pheap and Than Hach, senior advocacy officers with CCFA. Col. Saroeun said that the trio was charged with “incitement to commit a felony or cause social unrest” under Articles 494 and 495 of the Criminal Code. If convicted, they face punishment from six months to two years in prison.   He said that on May 13 and 14, the three accused conducted a CCFC network training seminar on “Farmers’ Techniques and Agricultural Products Strategy '' with the participation of farmers from around Ratanakiri province.   He added that

Tep  Nayak    Kratie provincial police arrested president of the Coalition of Cambodian Farmer Community (CCFC) Theng Savoeun and his 36 members on Wednesday as they left Ratanakkiri for Phnom Penh for questioning a large scale gathering in Ratanakkiri province. A day after their arrest and interrogation, Kratie provincial police sent and handed them over to Ratanakkiri provincial authorities for further questioning about the large-scale gathering. Ratanakkiri provincial governor Nhem Sam Oeun that Ratanakkiri provincial authorities had cooperated with Kratie provincial police to arrest them on their way from Ratanakkiri to Kratie city. "The reason for the arrests is due to the suspicion that their large-scale rallies were secretly politically motivated," he said.   "They came to Ratanakkiri for a few days and the authorities closely monitored their irregular activities. Prime Minister Hun Sen received the honorary title of “Puthamumakapibal”

Tep Neayok Cambodia’s Minister Samdech Tekchor Hun Sen on April 2, 2023 received the honorary title of “Puthamumakapibal” Prime (Patron of Buddhism) from the World Buddhist Organization. Prime Minister Hun Sen also accepted an “Honorary Doctorate in Humanities and Solidarity” from the National University of Niger Padang, Indonesia, at an event in Phnom Penh. The prime minister spoke about the fact that Cambodian people uphold the values and virtues of Buddhism. He noted that citizens continue to enjoy religious freedom enshrined in the Cambodian Constitution. He encouraged the development of fresh thinking and new ideas by linking Buddhist civilisation around the world to promote the dissemination of the Buddha's teachings so that educational institutions, think-tanks, Buddhist institutes and universities can integrate its positive values into educational and research programmes.
