2 former opposition activists jailed for posting provocative messages related to the image of His Majesty the King

Phnom Penh Municipal Court on March 22, 2023 charged and detained two former opposition activists for posting provocative messages on social media related to the image of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni. 

According to the court’s document issued by the investigating judge Yi Sok-vouch, the two accused were identified as Yim Sinan, 40;  and Hun Kosal, 41. 

They both are former activists of the dissolved-Cambodian National Rescued Party ( CNRP). 

They both were charged with “insulting the King and inciting to commit felony”  under articles 437, 494 and 495 of criminal codes.   

If convicted, they face a jail term from 1 to 5 years each.  

They were arrested on March 21. They were arrested after they had posted on social media, using an image of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni and posting provocative messages like “According to the voices of the people…today we can clearly see who is the real king of the earth.”
