Police arrested a Chinese national and seized 3,224 kg of ice in Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday (on March 19, 2023) charged and detained a Chinese suspected man for possessing and trafficking more than three kilograms of ice in the capital.

Anti-Drug Police Officer Major Nuon Sothearith  in the Ministry of Interior told the Khmer Times yesterday that the accused was identified as Liu Zhao, 39, the Chinese national. 

Maj. Sothearith said that the accused was charged with “drug possession, production and trafficking” under Article 39 and 40 of the Law on Drug Control and faces a jail term up to a life sentence if convicted. 

He said that the accused was arrested on March 16 after the police in the anti-drug department in the Ministry of Interior led by the court’s deputy prosecutor Oum Sopheak had raided his rental Condo in Daun Penh’s Boeng Raing commune, Phnom Penh. 

He added that police seized a total of 3, 244 grams (more than 3 kilograms) of crystal methamphetamine, a scale, a drug production machine and other related drug materials from his rental Condo. 

The accused now had been sent to temporary detention in the Correctional Center I (CC1) pending the pre-trial.
