Cambodia to Boost Rice Exports to the Philippines


PHNOM PENH: Cambodia and the Philippines on November 11, 2022 agreed to boost bilateral cooperation on rice exports.

The agreement was made during a bilateral meeting between Filipino President, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., and Prime Minister Hun Sen on Thursday, 10 November 2022, at the Sokha Hotel, Phnom Penh.

In addition to agreement in boosting the rice exports, the two parties also agreed to boost bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, agriculture, information technology, logistics, and national security.

The Cambodian government official said that during the meeting between Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and the Filipino President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the Philippines would make a 100 percent investment in the rice mills, dryer machines and warehouses for rice processing, in order to export rice from Cambodia to the Philippines.

The official said that companies in the Philippines can connect with Cambodian farmers to harvest rice for exclusive export to the Philippines.


According to the report of Cambodia's Ministry of Commerce, Cambodia exported more than 500,000 tons of rice to international markets in the past ten months of 2022, earning over US $323 million.
