Two 30-year-old men were jailed by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on January 15, 2024 for trafficking four kilogrammes of methamphetamine in Phnom Penh last year.

The court dismissed charges against a third accused and granted his release from custody.

Presiding Judge Hok Pov identified the three men as Pov Saly, 32, Cham Dararoeun, 24, and Khin Sarath, 53.

The three men were charged with “drug trafficking” under Article 40 of the Law on Drugs Control.

Saly, who was found to be the mastermind and owner of the drugs seized, was sentenced by the court to a life sentence and a fine of   80 million riels while Dararoeun was jailed 30 years and fined 30 million riels.

Judge Pov said Sarath’s charge was dropped because he was found not to have been involved with Saly and Dararoeun’s activities.

“The accused Sarath is not found guilty in this case. Therefore, the Phnom Penh Municipal Court has decided to drop his charges and order his release from prison if he does not have other criminal cases in court,” Judge Pov read the verdict yesterday.

He said the trio were arrested at about 11.30am and 1,975.24 grams of methamphetamine were seized from them in Porsen Chey district’s Chom Chao commune, Phnom Penh on February 12 last year by police.
