The Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) yesterday said that the two
top officials of Kep City Administration who were “detained mistakenly” have
been released after nearly four hours of questioning.
Kheng Yan, Governor of Kep City and his close colleague, In
Hun, Chief of City’s Administration Department, were reportedly arrested by the
ACU on Tuesday morning.
Soy Chanvichetr, Spokesman of ACU, confirmed yesterday that the
Kep City Governor and the Chief of Administration were detained “out of some confusion”
and the ACU did not arrest both of them as reports said.
“I would like to express that there is no such case.
The Anti-Corruption Unit ACU has not arrested them,” Chanvichetr told Khmer
Times, adding that “The Anti-Corruption Unit always informs the public if there
is any arrest.”
Bun Yong, Deputy Governor and Spokesman of Kep City, told
Khmer Times that the duo were not arrested but only detained for a brief period
for some questioning.
Calling it as “an arrest of confusion”, Yong said the duo
had been released soon after the ACU found that both were mistakenly detained.
Yong said that Yan and Hun were taken by the ACU officials
for questioning at about 11:30 am on Tuesday after a meeting at the Kep City Hall
and the duo was allowed to go home in the evening.
However, he did not reveal the exact reasons for their
detentions or what led to the ACU officials to take them for questioning.
“They both now have returned to their homes and are
continuing their work happily at the Kep City Administration as usual,” Yong
told Khmer Times.
However, he declined to divulge more details about the case.
Both Yan and Hun could not be reached for comment
yesterday.
