Major General Chuon Narin Takes Charge in Phnom Penh Police New Chief

Major General Chuon Narin took charge as the Police Chief of Phnom Penh in a ceremony held at Phnom Penh Municipal Police headquarters in Russei Keo district on August 29, 2023.  

Maj Gen Narin was appointed as a replacement for the four-star General Sar Theth who was promoted by the King as the Chief of National Police of Cambodia.


General Theth presided over the appointment ceremony of Maj Gen Narin which saw the participation of more than 500 police and military police officials at the Phnom Penh Municipal Police headquarters yesterday.

Previously, Maj Gen Narin was the chief of Preah Sihanouk Provincial Police, and Major General Sar Ratha, the youngest son of the former interior minister Sar Kheng, replaced him as the new chief of Preah Sihanouk Provincial Police.

Addressing the ceremony, Gen. Thet urged Maj Gen Narin to maintain law and order in Phnom Penh, the national capital and economic centre where all the top national leaders as well as diplomats convene, and is home to many large international organisations.

Gen. Theth also instructed all the police leaderships and armed forces to strive to perform their duties better to raise the profile of the new government and boost the confidence of the people. 

“The performance of the police officers also reflects the leadership from the past to the present. So, you must be disciplined to respect the rules and the code of conduct of the National Police to perform your duties properly,” Gen Theth added. 

“You all must be loyal to the Nation, the King and Religion, and protect the new Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet,” he said.  

“You must not do anything wrong for your own benefit which could spark public criticism and damage the honour of the leaders in the new government,” he added.

Gen. Theth also instructed that police forces in all municipalities and provinces to crack down on crimes such as thefts, robberies, trafficking and illegal gambling and so in their respective areas.    


In his response, Maj. Gen. Narin said he will defend the Constitution and pledged to be loyal to the Nation, Religion and the King. 

Maj. Gen. Narin also committed promote the “Safe Village Policy’ of the legitimate royal government voted to power by the people and implement its strategies, especially to maintain peace and political stability.
