The suspect accused of beheading a female casino card
dealer was arrested at a guesthouse on the Cambodian-Thai border and sent to
Phnom Penh for treatment as the man had attempted to commit suicide, police
said.
Lieutenant Colonel Keo Saroeun said yesterday that the
suspect is Lor Kong Hour, 41, and the victim is Morn Sreymey, 24, a trainee card
dealer working with the Dynasty Casino & Hotel and from Bavit Kandal
village, Banteay Dek commune in Kandal province’s Kean Svay district.
They were lovers.
“According to Lor’s confession, he killed the victim
because he was jealous and angry with Morn for having an affair with another
young man,” Lt. Col. Saroeun said.
“He was also angry with the victim’s parents for forcing
the two to stop having the affair. But he loved her so much and could not live
without her. He had also tattooed her name on his arm,” he said.
He emphasised that the suspect has been admitted to the Calmette hospital for treatment because he seriously injured himself when he attempted to commit suicide by drinking poison just before police arrested him on the night of April 20 night in Preah Vihear province’s Chheb district.
After the arrest, police transferred the suspect to Calmette
hospital in Phnom Penh for treatment.
After he has recovered, Lor will be sent to Svay Rieng
provincial court for questioning. Police have accused the suspect of
“premeditated murder” and faces life imprisonment if convicted.
According to the police report, at about 1:30 am last
Thursday, the owner of the house found the body of the beheaded woman in her
room in Bavit Kandal village. The victim’s head been thrown into the bathroom.
The house owner alerted the police for intervention.
