The Cambodian police in cooperation with Thai police on February 25, 2023 arrested an American-Cambodian-man after he had murdered his younger wife in a jealous rage with an electric shock in Phnom Penh and then fled to Bangkok.
The murder took place at about 12:30 pm on February 23 at the victim’s villa located in Samrong Krom commune, Phnom Penh’s Porsenchey district.
Lieutenant Colonel Heng Bunna named the suspect as Moul Neth, 68, the American-Cambodian-citizen.
The victim was identified as Keo Sreymom, 38, the owner of a Beauty Salon shop from Pursat province’s Krakor district living in Samrong commune.
They were married and had two young children.
Lt Col Bunna said that according to the police’s investigation, the suspect had two wives. His first wife, who is about the same age as him lives in the United States while his second wife (victim) lived in Cambodia.
During the outbreak of Covid-19, the suspect stayed in the United States and recently returned to visit his younger wife earlier this year, he said.
On the day of the murder, the suspect had a verbal argument with the victim at their house in Samrong Krom commune, he noted.
The argument was caused by jealousy because the suspect alleged that the victim had an affair with a younger man living in Phnom Penh, however, the victim denied it, he added.
“During police interrogation, he confessed that he had killed the victim because he was angry with her for having an affair with another man and betraying him,” he told Khmer Times.
“He confessed that he had killed her with an electric shock after he had beaten her unconscious,” he said.
“He also confessed that after killing her, he managed to flee to Thailand in order to travel back to the United States,” he added.
After his arrest, the suspect was later transferred by the Thai police to the Cambodian authorities and on Sunday he arrived in Phnom Penh, he added.
Colonel Eng Sorphea, the Chief of Municipal Penal Department in Phnom Penh, confirmed yesterday that the suspect is detained for further questioning and investigation at the municipal police headquarters.
The suspect is allegedly accused with “premeditated murder” and faces a jail term of up to life if convicted, Col Sorphea added.
He will be sent to the
court for questioning on Monday afternoon. //END//
