Lieutenant
General Chhay Kimkhoeun, spokesman for the National Police, said yesterday that
the national crime rate has dropped by 9% compared to the previous year,
adding, however the crackdowns have increased across the country.
Lt

trafficking, thefts (or robberies), acts of intentional violence (beating),
unlawful confinement, murder and frauds.
“We
managed to crack down on more crimes and arrest more perpetrators because
the General Secretariat of National Police had adopted right measures and
action plan for the police units, including municipal and provincial police, and
other relevant authorities,” Lt. Gen. Kimkhouen told Khmer Times.
“For
2023, we have already instructed all the police units to abide by the action
plan because several important big events such as the SEA Games are
happening this year,” he said.
“The
General Secretariat of National Police has introduced all the municipal
and provincial police and all the expert police units to prepare their strategies to
ensure law and order in their respective areas,” he added.
Lt.
Gen. Kimkhouen added that the General Secretariat of National Police will
provide them with professional training and education, and also strengthen
their morality and discipline.
Colonel
Sam Sak, Deputy Police Chief of Kampong Speu province, who is in charge
of Chief of Provincial Crime Investigation, said that the crime rate
had decreased in the province last year, and the coordination between the
authorities concerned in the crackdowns made the task of busting crime dens and
arresting the suspects.
He said that most of the offenses in Kampong Speu were thefts, drug abuse and trafficking, among others.
