Police arrested a woman who hired an
assassin to her husband for having an extramarital affair in Kandal province on
January 15, 2023.
In a coordinated operation, the police
in the penal department of the Ministry of Interior and Kandal provincial
police have also arrested the man she had hired for $ 1,000 to carry out the
murder.
Penal Office Police Deputy Chief
Lieutenant Colonel Meng Sothy named the woman as San Thida, 34, a hairdresser
living in Phnom Penh; and her aide as Thuon Ravy alias Vy, 39, a construction
worker living in the Kandal province.
Lt. Col. Sothy named the victim as Khem
Phally, 33, a loan officer who was working with a private microfinance company in
Pursat province and living in Phnom Penh.
Kandal provincial penal police officer
Major Sath Bunthoeun yesterday said that the suspects were charged with
“premeditated murder” and face a jail term up to a life sentence in prison each,
if convicted.
During her confession, San Thida told
the police interrogations that her marital life was problematic as husband Phally
had affairs with other women. That made
her Ravy on January 10 for an amount of $ 1,000 to kill her husband.
Ravy, who knew the victim very well, offered
the victim a trip to Kean Svay district on January 11 afternoon. The victim
drove his own motorbike and picked Ravy to the place.
“After arriving at a deserted place,
Ravy strangled the victim to death with an electric wire,” Lt. Col. Sothy said.
“After the murder he threw the body into
a nearby water canal, robbed his valued things (properties) and fled,” Lt. Col.
Sothy added.
On January 13, villagers found his body
floating on the canal and alerted the commune police.
However, a man saw him throwing the
body, which led to his arrest on January 15, and based on his confession the
woman was arrested.
