Capital penal police yesterday arrested a businesswoman,
who is the owner of a lotion company, for publicly defaming an online lotion
vendor via social media and Facebook.
Commissariat of Phnom Penh Municipal Police Officer Major Long Kimheng yesterday identified the suspect as Mao Limhorn, 43, the owner of Darling Skin Care Co Ltd living in Tuol Kork district’s Phsar Depo II commune.
Maj Kimheng named the plaintiff as Phal Sreyna, 33, living in Chamkar Mon district’s Olympic commune.
He said that Limhorn and Sreyna are former friends and business partners. They sold skin-whitening lotions via Facebook.
Maj Kimheng said that in 2019, Sreyna, who was then the distributor of Limhorn’s company products, bought the lotions and stocked them for sale to her customers across the country.
He noted that in October 2021, both had an argument after Limhorn had allegedly accused Sreyna of selling the wholesale products at a wrong price to her customers.
Maj Kimheng said that at that time, the two parties made an agreement with each other to end the dispute.
Limhorn allowed Sreyna to continue selling the lotions she had bought from her company until it the stock was finished.
Maj Kimheng said that last month Limhorn posted a video on Facebook and Tik Tok several times, saying that Sreyna sold fake and illegal lotion products and had been doing so for a long time.
He added that because the allegation is not true it affected Sreyna’s reputation and she filed a lawsuit which led to Limhorn’s arrest yesterday.
“In this case, the suspect has been accused of ‘public
defamation and incitement to criminate’ and faces from six months to three
years in prison if convicted,” Maj Kimheng noted.
