Three Taiwanese men sentenced to life in prison for trafficking more than 2 tons of drugs in Cambodia

Phnom Penh Municipal Court on March
31, 2022 sentenced three Taiwanese men to a life sentence in prison each for
possessing and trafficking more than two tons of drugs committed last year in
Kampong Speu province’s Oral district.
They all are Taiwanese nationals and
worked with a Taiwanese-owned-company named “Sin Yin Feng Cambodia Industry Co., Ltd” located in the border of Kampong
Speu and Preah Sihanouk Provinces, in Sangke Satop commune’s Dambang Veng
village, in Oral district.
“The Phnom Penh Municipal Court has
decided to sentence them to a life sentence in prison each. The court orders
them to pay 80 million Riels [about $ 20,000] each to put in the state’s budget
as a fine,” he said.
“The accused have the right to appeal
the ruling of Phnom Penh Municipal Court to the Appeal Court within the period
of a month [30 days] if they did not accept it,” he added.
Judge Vannak said that they were
charged with “drug production, possession, transport and trafficking” under
Articles 38, 40, 47 and 48, and with “Money Laundry” under Article 38 of
Cambodian Law on Anti-Money Laundering and Financing.
He emphasized that they were arrested
on December 12, 2021 by police in the anti-drug department in the Ministry of
Interior in Kampong Speu province’s Oral district.
He said that after their arrest,
police inspected their company’s warehouse located in Oral district’s Sangke
Satop commune.
He added that police seized a total of
2, 237 kilograms [more 2 tons] of Ketamine and other 84 tons of chemical
ingredients as well as other related drug producing materials from their
warehouse.
The three Taiwanese accused men could
not be reached for comments on Thursday.
