Malaysian based Muslim organisation DMDI sets up food bank project in Cambodia

Malaysia’s Malacca state
Governor Tun Mohd Ali Rustam who is also the president of the Malaysia-based
DMDI, and the organsation’s vice-president Senior Minister Dr Osman Hassan
yesterday presided over the inauguration of a food bank project to help the
poor in Cambodia.
The DMDI or Dunia
Melayu Dunia Islam (Malay World Muslim World) was established in 2000 in
Malaysia to unite Malay Muslims, such as promoting cooperation in all aspects
of development among Malay Muslims with the people as well as other countries
in the world.
The DMDI Cambodia Food
Bank project, initiated by Ali Rustam and Osman with the support of Malaysian
Ambassador to Cambodia Eldeen Husaini Mohd Hashim aims to source for donations
from local and foreign philanthropists and help the poor in Cambodia.
Osman said that the
Food Bank of Cambodia will play an important role in helping to better the
lives of poor people in the community in line with the poverty reduction policy
of the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen.
“I strongly believe
that after the inauguration today, the DMDI Cambodia Food Bank will be
supported by donations from local philanthropists, Cambodian Islamic leaders,
government officials, investors, entrepreneurs as well as foreign
philanthropists,” he said.
He said that Cambodia,
through the DMDI Foundation, will also receive scholarships for undergraduate
students to study at universities in Malacca state and assistance for
humanitarian work, natural disaster relief among others.
Besides Malaysia and
Cambodia, DNDI is also active in Thailand, Singapore, China, Indonesia, Saudi
Arabia, Brunei, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, Britain, Madagascar, Australia,
South Africa, Egypt, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Netherlands, Maldives, Bangladesh,
Canada, Suriname and Sri Lanka.
