A POLICEMAN and two students were charged with drug trafficking and drug abuse in Phnom Penh on Sunday, after a raid on a Daun Penh district guesthouse.

Police officer Sreng Chan Boramey, 27, was arrested along with Im Veasna, 27, and Ros Chamroeun, 31, during a police operation targeting Gech Laing guesthouse in Phsar Thmey III commune at around 9.30pm on Friday night.

Khieu Samon, acting secretary general of the National Authority for Combating Drugs at the Ministry of Interior, said that 12 packages of drugs – containing a total of 27 grams of amphetamines – were seized.

A pistol, two mobile phones and other drug-related materials were also confiscated.

“They were charged on Sunday with drug abuses and drug trafficking,” he told The Post yesterday.

During a month-long nationwide crackdown on drug abuse that ended on May 5, 372 people were charged for drugs offences throughout Cambodia.

An estimated 3,851 amphetamine pills, 467 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine, 1,363 pills of ecstasy and one kilogramme of heroin were found, while 3,736 marijuana plants were destroyed.
