Scholarship Student Seng Piseth Want to Become a Lawyer

One of The University of Cambodia’s “Samdech Hun Sen-Handa National Scholarships 2009” students, Seng Pisith, 22, has provided an interview with The Southeast Asia Weekly on July 30th, describing about his desire in the future.
Pisith was born in 1989 in Bati district in Takeo province and has two brothers and two sisters. He is the youngest brother in his in family. His parents are the business people sending goods at the Samrong Yong market in Bati district, in Takeo province.
He now is studying Law at The University of Cambodia (UC) after he passed the scholarship exams offered in 2009.
“I am happy as I passed the scholarship exams offered by The University of Cambodia in 2009 and have a chance to study Law at the UC which is one of the well-known universities in Cambodia,” he said.
Seng Pisith studied at the Bun Rany-Hun Sen High School and he earned a Baccalaureate in 2009. He decided to study Law with The University of Cambodia because he wanted to become a lawyer in the future working in Cambodia.
“I applied to study Law with UC because I wanted to become a lawyer and working to help the poor and contribute to strengthening and promotion of laws enforcement and democracy in my country,” he said.
Pisith said that currently, besides his studies, he plans to apply for study English Literature with the Institute of Foreign Language (IFL) in Phnom Penh next year.
He added that the reason why he decided to apply for study English with IFL is because he also wanted to speak and write English well and become a future English professor in Cambodia. It is also a chance for him to apply for a foreign scholarship to study towards his Master’s or Doctoral degree at the foreign countries in the future.
He added that beside his studies, he is now looking for part-time English work so that he can earn some money to support his study as well as to gain working experiences prior to his graduation with The University of Cambodia.
Regarding staying in Phnom Penh, he said that currently, he is living with a group of his friends whom they are also students and are from Takeo provinces. He said that he pays a total of US$ 50 for his accommodation, water and electricity per month in Phnom Penh.
