Eastern Thai Fruits Exhibition held in Cambodia

The Export Promotion Department in the Ministry of Commerce of the Royal Thai Government and the Royal Thai Embassy in Cambodia in collaboration with the Paragon Cambodia Town Center has organized the Eastern Thai Fruits Exhibition 2010 for four days from the 27th to the 30th of May at the Paragon Cambodia Town Center in Phnom Penh.

Over 30 tones of Eastern Thai Fruits exported from Chan Buri, Rak Yorng and Trat provinces in Thailand were displayed and sold within lower prices for the people in Cambodia. The Eastern Thai Fruits included Thouren fruits, Mongkhut fruits, Samav fruits, Longkong fruits, Mangoes and other fresh fruits.

Chhalothan Phaoviboon, Secretary of the Royal Thai Embassy in Cambodia, said that it marked the second time as the Export Promotion Department in the Ministry of Commerce, the Royal Thai Government and the Royal Embassy of Thailand in collaboration with the Paragon Cambodia Town Center have organized this Eastern Thai Fruits in Phnom Penh.

The main purpose of the Eastern Thai Fruits was to display and additionally express about Thai fresh fruits which are the qualified goods with fair prices and also gratitude to all Cambodian clients who have been supporting and eating Thai fresh fruits in Cambodia.

Phaoviboon added that it was also to enlarge the trade, businesses, investments, cooperation and alliance between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Thailand in the future.

“This year’s Eastern Thai Fruits Exhibition is considered as a successful result for all involved institutions such as state party, farmers and communities in exporting their fresh fruits for sales abroad. It has also enlarged the trade, businesses, investments and cooperation between the two countries in the future,” he said during opening remarks at the Fruits Exhibition in Phnom Penh.

Phaoviboon pointed out that the export of Thai fresh fruits into Cambodian markets have been increasing about 30 percent every year. He added that the first Eastern Thai Fruits was held from 29th April to 2nd May 2010 at the Paragon Cambodia Town Center in Phnom Penh. The exhibition got a lot of success because it was supported and bought by Cambodian buyers.

Suphara Saykachan, Chief of the Office of the Thai Export Promotion in Chan Buri province, said that the purpose of the Thai Fruits Expo is to promote the export of the Thai fruits such as Thuren, Samav, Longkong, Mangoes and Mongkhut fruits for Thai eastern provinces: Chan Buri, Trat and Rak Yorng provinces in order to avoid the fall of fruits’ prices in Thailand.

There are a total of 752,532 tones of Thai fresh fruits which have been imported for sales in the markets in region in this year, he said, adding that these amounts of the eastern Thai fruits included 332, 160 tones of Thouren fruits; 125, 650 tones of Mongkhut fruits; 230, 848 tones of Samav fruits; and 63, 876 tones of Longkong fruits.

She continued to say that amongst these exported amounts, there were only 20 percent of Thai fresh fruits which has exported for sales in important markets such as China, Japan, the United States and other European countries in the world.

“The Office of the Thai Export Promotion has seen that Cambodia is a potential market for Thailand to export its fruits for sales. And with this imported goods and trade, the Thais have been earning about 1,000 Million Baths from Cambodian markets per year. Among this number, the Eastern Thai Fruits has sold about 30 percent of its fresh fruits equals about 600 Million Baths for Cambodian markets every year,” she said.

To promote the goods export, the Office of the Thai Export Promotion will continue to organize more Eastern Thai Fruits exhibitions every year in Cambodia in the future, he said.

Jiranun Wongmongkol, Minister Counselor (Commercial) in the Office of Commercial Affairs in the Royal Thai Embassy in Cambodia, said that according to the report of the Royal Thai Embassy, for the trade between Thai and Cambodia in 2009, the Thais gained a total of US$ 1,658 million.

Wongmongkol emphasized that the Thai trade into Cambodia in 2009 has decreased 22 percent if compared with 2008’s trading revenues due to the declined demands or buying from Cambodian clients. She added that besides this Eastern Thai Fruits Exhibition, the Department of Export Promotion in Ministry of Commerce of the Royal Thai Government plans to organize the Thai Trade Exhibition 2010 on June 17th -20th June at the Diamond Exhibition Center in Koh Pich; and the Thai Beauty Exhibition on July 2-5, 2010 at the Paragon Cambodia Town Center in Phnom Penh.

There are a total of 165 companies with 254 stores have participated and sold their Thai goods and products in the Eastern Thai Fruits Exhibition in Phnom Penh. //
