Nationwide Shuttle Cock Championship Tournament 2010

A total of 217 shuttle cock players from 12 shuttle cock associations and clubs in Cambodia have participated in the Nationwide Shuttle Cock Championship Tournament 2010 over five days from the 30th of April to the 4th of May 2010 in Phnom Penh to compete to become the shuttle cock champions for 2010 in Cambodia.

Nationwide Shuttle Cock Championship Tournament 2010 is organized by the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport in collaboration with the Cambodian Shuttle Cock Federation.

Tuy Bunhoeun, Chief of the Modern Sport Office in the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport, said that every year the Ministry has organized the nationwide shuttle cock championship tournament in Cambodia in order to select the best players of the year.

Tuy Buhoeun continued to say that the main purpose of the nationwide shuttle cock competition was to promote and develop the sport as well as to select the best players for the future national and international shuttle cock tournaments in Cambodia and abroad.

“Shuttle cock is one of Cambodia’s potential sport subjects for attending the international sports competition in region and the world. This nationwide tournament aims at selecting the best players for attending both national and international shuttle cock competitions in future,” he told The Southeast Asia Weekly during an interview on April 30th.

He said that there are a total of 217 shuttle cock players including 192 male players and 25 female players from 12 shuttle cock associations and clubs in Phnom Penh and Kandal province that have participated in the Nationwide Shuttle Cock Championship in Phnom Penh. He added that competition has six competition subjects and divided into two categories including male competition (Framework A and B) and female competition (Framework A and B).

Relating to the competitions awards, he added that the prize will be given to the three winners in which the first winner of the competition will receive a gold medal, along with amount of money and other sport materials; the second winner receive the silver medal with money and other sport materials; and the third winner will receive the bronze medal with amount of money and other sport material. The medals and prizes are generously provided by the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports.

Naing Sopheap, 20, is one of the shuttle cock trainees for the Royal Cambodina Armed Force (RCAF) club in Phnom Penh. Sopheap has been training with the shuttle cock for over three years at the RCAF’s shuttle cock association in Phnom Penh.

He said that this year’s competition is the fourth year for him to attend and competing for the championship of the nationwide shuffle cock tournament in Phnom Penh.

“This is my fourth time for me to participate in the competition. I will try my best in the competition in order to win this year’s tournament,” he told The Southeast Asia Weekly.

He added that last year he has attended the nationwide shuttle cock competition in Phnom Penh, and as result he won a silver medal, along with prizes from MoEYS. ///
