Nationwide Gymnastics Championship Tournament 2010

About 100 gymnasts from provinces throughout the country have participated in the onwide Gymnastic Tournament 2010 Nationwide Gymnastic Championship Tournament 2010 over five days from the 14th to the 18th of May in Phnom Penh to compete to become the 2010 gymnasts champion in Cambodia.

Nationwide Gymnastic Championship Tournament 2010 is organized by the Department of Physical Education and Youth in the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports (MoEYS) in collaboration with the Cambodia Gymnastic Federation (CGF) in Cambodia.

Nay Sophanna, Secretary General of the Cambodia Gymnastic Federation (CGF), said that every year the Cambodia Gymnastic Federation has organized the nationwide gymnastic tournament but this year’s competition is organized by the Department of Physical Education and Youth in the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports.

The purpose of the competition is to select the champions of Cambodian for 2010. It is also to select the best performers of gymnastics to attend the future national and international competitions. Another objective of the tournament is to promote people health care as well as to develop the gymnastics in Cambodia.

Pich You, National Coach of the Gymnastic Team at the Cambodia Gymnastic Federation, said that the nationwide gymnastic tournament is divided into two categories including male gymnastic and female gymnastic competitions. The competition also divided into two subjects in which there is Gymnastic Aerobic competition and Gymnastic Artistic competition.

Pich You continued to say that the competition takes place from May 14-18, 2010 at the National Stadium Complex in Phnom Penh and the entry is free of charge for all people to watch.

Relating to the gymnastic awards, You pointed out that the competition has three-classification awards and prizes in which the first winner will receive the gold medal, along with a mount of money and other matrials; the second winner receives silver medal with a mount of money, and the third winner receives bronze with a mount of money.

She stated that the awards and money are generously provided by the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport. She added that since the establishment of the Cambodia Gymnastic Federation in 1980 and organization of the nationwide gymnastic tournaments so far, Cambodian gymnastics have been promoted and developed in Cambodia. The federation has also been sending Cambodian gymnasts to attend international gymnastic competitions every year abroad. And as results, they have not received any medals but received many “Letters of Appreciations” from the gymnastic tournament organizers. ///
