Konrad Adenauer Foundation Launches Book Distribution

The book on “Tasks of Spokespersons, Media Officers, and Communication Officers,” which was written by Cambodian veteran journalist Chhay Sophal with the financial support from Konrad Adenauer Foundation, was launched on January 5 and distributed freely to journalists groups and relevant officials of all royal government ministries, non-governmental organizations, and private companies in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
The launching and free distribution of the book entitled was organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Club of Cambodian Journalists.
Khieu Kanharith, Minister of Information and spokesman to the Royal Government of Cambodia, said that the book is the first book written by a Khmer journalist in 2010.
The Minister continued to say that the book is very important because it has clearly introduced the important roles of spokespersons, media officers, and communication officers in carrying out their daily duties and working with relevant government ministries, non-governmental organizations, and private companies.
“I am proud of Mr. Chhay Sophal who is the Cambodian writer of this book and also a veteran journalist in Cambodia,” he said during opening remarks at the launching. “I think his book is very important and useful for those officials who are now working as spokesmen, media officers, and communication officers with government ministries as well as non-governmental organizations or private companies in Cambodia.”
The Minister emphasized that currently most of Cambodia’s media officers or communication officers have not performed their duties well because they were not trained about the necessary skills.
“Thus, I hope that Chhay Sophal’s book will become a resource or guideline book for them to read in order to improve their communication skills and perform their duties well in the future,” he claimed.
To promote the capacity building of the government ministries spokesman and media officers, the Ministry of Information in collaboration with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Club of Cambodian Journalists, American Embassy to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and other related non-governmental organizations, will conduct trainings on job skills for them in the future, he said.
Chhay Sophal, author of the book and publisher of a English language newspaper “Cambodia News,” said that it is the first time he has written this book and is distributing it freely to those who are working as media and communication officers in Cambodia.
Sophal said that the book was printed in mid-December 2009 with financial support from Konrad Adenauer Foundation, aiming to improve the capacity building of the spokesmen, media officers, and communication officers working in Cambodia.
The main purpose of the book is to contribute to the development and promotion of Cambodian government’s human resources in capacity building, especially in media and communication sections, he said, adding that one thousand copies of the first-ever book on the issue in Khmer language are distributed free of charge to relevant officials of all the royal government ministries, non-governmental organizations, and private companies. Journalist and media and communication students of the Royal Phnom Penh University are also the target group. ///
