Cambodian King to attend opening ceremony of Winter Olympics in China

Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen Selected as Winner of 2022 SUNHAK PEACE PRIZE

  Buth Reaksmey Kongkea   Samdach Hun Sen, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has been selected as the winner of the 2022 Sunhak Peace Prize from the Sunhak Peace Foundation, based in the Republic of Korea after seeing the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the country has been peaceful and developed continuously.  According to a letter from Dr. Thomas G. Walsh, President of the Sunhak Peace Foundation, released on January 25, 2022, the award ceremony will be held on February 12, 2022 in Seoul, South Korea and this award is due to the consistent leadership of the past many years as the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the leadership of Samdech Hun Sen really contributed to peace building, economic development and Peace in Cambodia and in the whole of Southeast Asia. Buth Reaksmey Kongkea   His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni on January 26, 2022, issued a Royal Decree granting Cambodian nationality a family cluster to the family of Davis Benjamin Joseph with four members.  The four include Davis Benjamin Joseph, 56 [he was born in 1966]; his wife:   Lwin Sharyn Patricia, 49 [she was born in 19 73]; her two daughters: Davis Amelie Charis, 18 [ she was born in 2004]; and   Davis Jarrah Camilie, 13, [she was bone in 2009]. Davis Benjamin Joseph is currently living with his family and has dedicated his life and energy to the cause of protecting and conserving forest and wildlife resources in the Phnom Tnaot-Phnom Pork Wildlife Sanctuary in Preah Vihear Province.  In the past, Davis Benjamin Joseph has received support from the Ministry of Environment and many other Cambodian people in the care and protection of natural resources at the Phnom Tnaot Phnom -Pork Wildlife Sanctuary in Preah Vihear Province.  The Ministry of Environment, through Mr.

ACU asks General Chan Ponleuk to explain on corruption and embezzlement of nearly half million UD$ from 107 military professors?

Buth Reaksmey Kongkea  The Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) has requested Lt. Gen. Chan Ponleuk, Deputy Rector of the National Defense University, to clarify the issue of embezzlement of 107 military professors worth more than 1,600 million riels (about $400,000) and more than 130 million riels ($ 32,500) for military training and other more corruptions. This is according to the letter dated January 26, 2022 of the ACU.

26 chainsaws seized during patrol in Preah Rokar Wildlife Sanctuary

Buth Reaksmey Kongkea The Preah Vihear Provincial Department of Environment in cooperation with the Prey Top forest protection community confiscated 26 chainsaws left by illegal loggers in Preah Rokar Wildlife Sanctuary yesterday. Preah Vihear Provincial Department of Environment officer Duong Sophea said today that the chainsaws were left behind by the illegal loggers who fled a joint patrol by park rangers and forest protection community members in Pring Thom commune, Choam Ksan district.   He added that seized 26 chainsaws have been handed over to Preah Rokar Wildlife Sanctuary officials to keep as evidence of the crime.  

Police ordered to ensure safety during Lunar New Year celebration

Buth Reaksmey Kongkea National Police Chief General Neth Savoeun on January 28, 2022 instructed all the heads of departments, specialised units and the Capital-Provincial police committees to strengthen measures to ensure security, public order and safety during the traditional New Year celebrations of the Chinese and Vietnamese people, which will take place from  January 31 to February 3, 2022.   Gen Savoeun ordered the police forces to take measures to maintain security and public order at all the Chinese and Vietnamese temples, as well as shrines and resorts that offer sacrifices and entertainment, by preventing all kinds of crimes including gambling and gang activities. He also ordered them to maintain traffic order, prevent congestion, increase traffic law enforcement, prevent fires and prohibit the letting off of fireworks or other noisy explosives in the cities.

French Colonial in K Chhnang to be razed

Buth Reaksmey Kongkea The Kampong Chhnang Provincial Administration on Thursday approved the demolition of a French Colonial era building housing 13 flats on the grounds that it is too dilapidated to restore. Kampong Chhnang city governor Yin Saven yesterday said that the bulding was constructed in 1931 and is now-91 years-old. “This house is very old and is very dilapidated and cannot be lived in anymore,” Saven said. “This is why the provincial authorities have called on the flat owners to leave in case of a possible collapse that could lead to the loss of lives and property.” Saven said that with approval from provincial administration, the owners can build new houses on the same site as the old house. He added that the provincial authorities yesterday handed over letters of permission as well as other related land documents to the owners so they can demolish the old building and construct new houses in the same place. Court Tried Ex-CNRP Activist over Incitement

  Buth Reaksmey Kongkea Phnom Penh Municipal Court on January 26, 2022 heard the case of a CNRP activist who allegedly incited people to go against the government through a live post on Facebook saying that there are divisions and disagreements between supporters of Prime Minister Hun Sen and those who support Interior Minister Sar Kheng.  Judge Chhun Davy identified the accused as Voeurn Veasna, 36, a novice monk from Stung Treng province’s Thalaborivat district.  She said that the accused, who also badly criticized the government’s measures to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic, was charged with “incitement to commit a felony or cause social unrest” under Articles 494 and 495 of the Criminal Codes.     Judge Davy added that Veasna was arrested on November 8 in Thailand. Ex-Chief Bodyguard of Oknha Thong Sarath Appeal Murder Conviction

  Buth Reaksmey Kongkea   The Supreme Court on January 26, 2022 heard the appeal of a former chief bodyguard of a tycoon who was sentenced to life in jail in 2019 for allegedly killing another tycoon Oknha Ung Meng Chue in 2014.   Presiding Judge You Ottara identified the convict as Seng Veansna, 48, a former soldier and former Chief of Bodyguards of Oknha Thong Sarath.     Judge Ottara noted that Phnom Penh Municipal Court on March 26, 2019 sentenced Sarath, 41, a businessman and former military officer; and his four bodyguards identified as Veasna, Meas Sambath, 28, a former soldier with the 911 paratrooper Brigade; and Kouy Chanthol, 30, a former solder with the E70 Brigade; and also Chhun Pheaktra, 48, Sarath’s driver to a life sentence in prison each. The court also ordered five of them to jointly pay $10 million in compensation to Taing Kimchheng, 48, Ung Meng Cheu’s wife. Sokha’s Hearing Resumes with Video Clip Evidence Played

  Buth Reaksmey Kongkea   Phnom Penh Municipal Court on January 25, 2022 continued playing a video clip involving former Cambodian National Rescued Party (CNRP) president Kem Sokha as it resumed hearing his treason trial.   Sokha, 67, is accused of conspiracy and having secret agreement with a foreign [US] state or its agents with a view to fomenting hostilities or acts of aggression against the Kingdom of Cambodia committed in Cambodian territory and other places between 1993 and 2017.   Presiding Judge Koy Sao said that in this case, the accused was charged with “Conspiracy with Foreign Power” under article 443 of criminal code.   Judge Sao said that Sokha was arrested on September 3, 2017.   He added that the arrest followed a video clip in which he allegedly confessed in 2013 in Australia that he was following orders from the US to overthrow the Cambodian government through a colour revolution.   During the hearing, the judges’ council continued playing a portion of t

Japan invites Lt. Gen. Hun Manet on an official visit to mark the 30th Anniversary of Japan’s Historic Peacekeeping Operation in Cambodia

Hun Manet, Deputy Commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Army on January 25, 2022 met with H.E Mr. Mikami Masahiro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Cambodia.  The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the invitation of the Commander of the Cambodian Army Lt. Gen. Hun Manet   to pay an official visit to Japan in the near future.  During the meeting, H.E Mr. Mikami Masahiro   mentioned the good cooperation between Cambodia and Japan in all fields, in which the defense relations also left an important memory, especially the deployment of Japanese peacekeepers to Cambodia in 1992, and also the first deployment of Japanese self-defense forces abroad.   In this regard, the official visit of Lt.   Buth Reaksmey Kongkea   The Emperor of Japan awarded the “Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon” to senior Cambodian officials who have contributed to the development of the water sector in Cambodia and the promotion of friendly relations between Japan and Cambodia.   The awarding ceremony of the Emperor of Japan to H.E Mr. Ek Son Chan was held in the presence of Japanese Ambassador H.E Mr. MIKAMI Masahiro  on the evening of January 24, 2022 at the Embassy of Japan, in Phnom Penh.  H.E Mr. Ek Sonn Chan joined Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PPWSA) as a Director in 1993 and he was General Director of PPWSA till 2012.  He successfully turnaround PPWSA from a loss-making water utility with NRW of more than 70% to a profitable water utility with NRW of less than 10%.  H.E Mr Ek Sonn Chan was awarded prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2006 for Government service.
