Japan invites Lt. Gen. Hun Manet on an official visit to mark the 30th Anniversary of Japan’s Historic Peacekeeping Operation in Cambodia

Lt. Gen. Hun Manet, Deputy Commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Army on January 25, 2022 met with H.E Mr. Mikami Masahiro, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Cambodia. 

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the invitation of the Commander of the Cambodian Army Lt. Gen. Hun Manet  to pay an official visit to Japan in the near future. 

During the meeting, H.E Mr. Mikami Masahiro  mentioned the good cooperation between Cambodia and Japan in all fields, in which the defense relations also left an important memory, especially the deployment of Japanese peacekeepers to Cambodia in 1992, and also the first deployment of Japanese self-defense forces abroad.

 In this regard, the official visit of Lt. Gen. Hun Manet, Commander of the Cambodian Army to Japan in 2022, coincides with the celebration of the 30th Anniversary of this Historic Peacekeeping Operation. 

H.E Mr. Mikami Masahiro also expressed his appreciation to the Royal Government of Cambodia for successfully controlling the spread of Covid-19, especially with the active participation of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces under the direct leadership of Lt. Gen. Hun Manet. 

In addition, H.E Mr. Mikami Masahiro also expressed his commitment to continue to support defense cooperation between the two countries, despite the disruption caused by Covid-19. 

In response, Lt. Gen. Hun Manet thanked the Royal Government and the people of Japan for their long-standing friendship and bilateral cooperation, including their contribution to the peace process in Cambodia and providing assistance in building and developing Cambodia in a number of key areas, as well as future assistance for the fight against Kovid-19 and economic recovery in the aftermath of the Kovid-19 crisis. 

Lt. Gen. Hun Manet also thanked H.E Mr. Mikami Masahiro for inviting him to visit Japan, especially as it marked the 30th anniversary of Japan's historic peacekeeping operation in Cambodia. 

Lt. Gen. Hun Manet also praised the good cooperation between the armies of the two countries, especially activities within the framework of the Army, such as: exchanges, study visits and training of human resources.

 It is hoped that these activities will resume after Covid-19 has improved.
