King Norodom Sihamoni has recently issued a Royal Decree
ordering the demotions of four high ranking officials of the Cambodian Counter Counterfeit Committee (CCCC)
to the lowest rank because they had committed serious offences in performing
their duties.
According to a copy of the Royal Decree obtained by Khmer Times yesterday, the five demoted
police officers as Major General Touch Yuthea; Brigadier General Tang Kong;
Brigadier General Chou Phalitin and Brigadier General Khay Vannak.
The four officers are each demoted to the rank of sergeant
(the lowest rank) working within the framework of the Cambodian National Police
of the Ministry of Interior.
Touch Sokhak, Spokesman at the Ministry of Interior, said
yesterday that Sgt Yuthea, Sgt Kong, Sgt
Phalitin, and Sgt Vannak were former deputy chiefs of Secretariat at the CCCC
and they had committed serious mistakes that could not be pardoned.
“They had committed many wrongdoings and there were complaints
by so many owners of business companies or entrepreneurs over their irregular
activities in cracking down and seizing their legal products,” Sokhack noted.
“They had also abused their authority and responsibilities,”
he said.
Related to the suspension of the Cambodia Counter Counterfeit
Committee, Sokhak said that up till now the Ministry of Interior had transferred
out about 170 of its police officers to work with the Ministry and other police
departments at the General Commissariat of the National Police.
“Regarding the position of General Meach Sophanna, who is
now the Chairman of the Cambodia Counter Counterfeit Committee and also a
Secretary of State at the Ministry of Interior, the leadership of the Ministry
are now investigating complaints against him to decide whether to terminate him
from his position or allow him to stay on.
