Manhunt underway for savage killer

Police are searching for an unknown suspect who brutally murdered a woman in Svay Rieng province.

 The victim was a female who worked as a trainee dealer at a casino in Bavit city.

The murderer slashed her throat and then beheaded her.   

The heinous crime took place at about 1 am yesterday in a rental room at Bavit Kandal village in Svay Rieng province. 

Bavit city police spokesman, Major Keo Vuthy, named the victim as Morn Srey Mey, 24.

She was identified as a trainee dealer working with the Dynasty Casino & Hotel at Banteay Dek commune, in Bavit Kandal village of Kandal province. 

Maj Vuthy noted that at 1:30 am yesterday the body of a woman was found by the home owner, dead in her room at Bavit Kandal village.  




He said that the house owner immediately alerted police. 

Police identified the victim and concluded she was brutally attacked and murdered. The woman’s body was without clothing.   

He added that the victim’s head was severed from the body and thrown inside the bathroom.

​“According to the preliminary investigation, this case is a murder, but we do not know who committed the crime or the reason for the killing. We won’t know unless the suspect is arrested,” Maj Vuthy told Khmer Times.

“Examination of the victim’s body reveals she was killed by slashing to the throat and afterwards beheaded with a samurai sword or a meat cleaver inside her rental room,” he said. 

“The killer fled and did not leave anything inside the room,” he added.



 He added that the deceased victim has been sent to a local pagoda pending further investigations.  

Svay Rieng Provincial Police Chief, Major Pich Vireak, confirmed yesterday that police have yet to identify the perpetrator’s identity.

“Police are still hard at work on this case, searching for suspects in order to bring them to justice,” Maj Gen Vireak told Khmer Times. 

“We will release the names of the suspects and the cause of the victim’s murder after they are arrested,” he said.

Maj Gen Vireak scolded online media for posting raw photos of the murder victim, stating that such postings violate ethical codes for civilized journalism and also detract from the effectiveness of police investigations.

Sorn Elit, the Tallest Cambodian Taekwando Champion
