A Cambodian woman arrested for embezzling more than $ 100,000 from a South Korean company

Municipal Police on February 21, 2022 sent a Cambodian woman accountant to Phnom Penh Municipal Court for questioning over alleged breach of trust involving more than $100,000 at a South Korean company. 

Municipal Penal Police Officer Major Cheng Lida identified her as Lach Sok-Eang, 40, living in Por Senchey district’s Choam Chao III commune. 

Maj Lida said that the suspect is allegedly accused with “breach of trust, embezzlement and forging the company’s stamp” 

He said that the suspect was arrested on February 18, 2022 in accordance with a Phnom Penh Municipal Court warrant dated February 10. 

Maj Lida added that the suspect was sued by a South Korean businessman named Shin Dongjin, the representative of a South Korean-owned-company named “HYUDAI PACKANGING (CAMBODIA) CO., LTD  which employed Sok-Eang. 

He said that according to plaintiff's complaint, the suspect was employed as Chief Accountant with the company based in Phnom Penh in 2018. 

Maj Lida added that between 2020 and last year, the suspect embezzled more than $100,000 from the company by “cooking” the account books and falsifying the company’s revenue. 

He added that the suspect now is still being questioned at the court. 

Phnom Penh Municipal Court's deputy prosecutor and the spokesman Plong Sophal could not be reached for comment yesterday. 

Sok-Eang could not be contacted for comments on her allegations on Friday.
