Dr. Kin Phea, President of the Institute of International Relations of the Royal Academy of Cambodia and an analyst, said that there is nothing wrong with the announcement of the Prime Minister's age limit by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the Prime Minister of Kingdom of Cambodia.

Dr. Phea said that itt can be said that Cambodia is the first country to set the age of the Prime Minister, because in other countries in our region in Asia, there is no country that has set the age of the Prime Minister.

“Cambodia is a leading country in setting the age of the Prime Minister,” said Dr. Phea.

“It is also good to be able to provide opportunities for successors to contribute to leading the country, which is important in cultivating a vision for succession,” he said.

“The age limit of the Prime Minister also shows the courage of the leaders of the Cambodian People’s Party who dare to leave this important position without fear and giving the newcomer a chance is a role model,” he added.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the new administration building and meeting hall of the Ministry of National Defense in Phnom Penh on December 29, 2021, Samdach Hun Sen, the Veteran and Experienced Prime Minister of Cambodia publicly announced that he will prepare a law to determine the retirement age of Prime Minister when he leaves the post of Prime Minister in the near future.

The Prime Minister said that the term of the Prime Minister cannot be determined because the election is to elect members of parliament, not to elect the Prime Minister directly.

But it is the members of parliament who elect the prime minister.
