Kon Rithysen Football Team Won the U13 Tournament 2010

Forty youth football teams with 880 players from Phnom Penh and provinces across the country have conducted the “Cambodia Festival U13 Tournament 2010” on July 6-14, 2010 at the National Football Centre, locating at Cheng Meng village, and at the Kambol’s Military Police Training Center in Phnom Penh. The U13 football tournament 2010 was organized by the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC) and supported by a number of local and international sponsor companies in Cambodia.

As result, Kon Rithysen Youth Football Club from Kampong Chhnang province has won the Championship of the “Cambodia Festival U13 Tournament 2010” while Diamond Youth Football Club received the second place, Athireach Phnom Svay Youth Football Club from Banteay Meanchey province finished in third place, and Kandal Youth Football Association came in fourth place of the competition.

General Sao Sokha, Chief of the Military Police Headquarter and President of the Football Federation of Cambodia (FFC), said that the winners of U13 footballers have shown hard work, talent, patience and strong commitment in the competition.

The FFC’s President General Sao Sokha continued to say that the youth teams who won the football competition were the qualified and the best youth football players which will become the future Football Federation of Cambodia’s potential national selection football team in Cambodia.

“We have now selected the qualified and the best young football players for the FFC in 2010. Through the hard competition of Cambodia Festival U13 football 2010, I observed that you all have been working very hard in the competition. On behalf of the football family and myself I am very proud and really appreciate your hard work, patience, commitment and your success. I hope that after this competition and when you return home and besides your school studies you all will continue to train and play football in the future,” he said during his closing remarks at the handing over ceremony of awards and prizes to the youth football teams who won the competition on July 14th.

General Sao Sokha pointed out that the youth football team who won the competition would become the selected football team of the Football Federation of Cambodia. They will also be supported and trained by the FFC in preparing for the future national and international youth football competitions inside and outside the country.

Relating to the Cambodia Festival U13 Football Tournament 2010, General Sokha said that this event is important because it will help develop football and football human resources as well as promote children and youth football players in Cambodia. He added that the event will also contribute to the progress and the country development which was made by Sadech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

“On behalf of the Football Federation of Cambodia, I would like to officially declare that to promote the youth football players in Cambodia, FFC will continue to organize the Festival U13 Football Tournament every year starting from this year. Therefore, I would like to appeal to all children and youths who enjoy playing football to avoid the use of drugs and other illegal activities in the country,” he said.

He has also called on all concerned people, children and youths’ parents to support and help encourage their children to enjoy football so that they can improve their health and become future strong pillars of developments in Cambodia.

Hun Samuth, Deputy Director of the Education and Youth Department in Ministry of Education Youth and Sport (MoEYS), and also Chief of the Cambodia Festival U13 Football Tournament, said that there are a total of 40 youth football teams with 880 youths have participated in the competition. He added that that all participated youth football teams have competed hard and have strictly respected the U13 competition’s procedure and rules.

As a result of the competition, Kon Rithysen Youth Football Club from Kampong Chhnang province has won the Championship of the “Cambodia Festival U13 Tournament 2010”; Diamond Youth Football Club received the second place, Athireach Phnom Svay Youth Football Club from Banteay Meanchey province received the third place, and Kandal Youth Football Association received the fourth place of the competition.
