Nationwide Cycling Championship Tournament 2010

About 200 Bicycle riders from Phnom Penh and provinces have attended the onwide Gymnastic Tournament 2010 Nationwide Cycling Championship Tournament 2010 for two days from 23_24 May 2010 in the Takhmau town, Kandal and Takeo provinces to compete for the 2010 cycling champions in Cambodia.

The Nationwide Cycling Championship Tournament 2010 was organized by the Department of Physical Education and Youth in the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport (MoEYS) in collaboration with the Cambodian Cycling Federation (CCF) in Cambodia.

Tuy Bun Hoeurn, Chief of the Modern Sport Office of the Department of Physical Education and Youth and also a Technical Committee of the competition, said that there were about 200 people from cities and provinces have participated in the Nationwide Cycling Championship Tournament 2010 on May 23-24 in Kandal and Takeo provinces.

Bun Hoeurn said that the competition has divided into two subjects including Kong Kourk riding Competition and Kong Dai Trong Driving Competition. He added that the Kong Kourk riding Competition was held in a 120-kilometer distance and began from the Takhmau town of Kandal province to the Takeo town in Takeo province and the Kong Dai Trong Driving competition was held in a 40-kilometer distance started from the Takeo town to Phnom Din checkpoint located at the Cambodian-Vietnamese border.

He continued to say that the last year’s cycling competition took place in Preah Sihanouk province with the same riding distance with about 100 bikers participated.

“The purpose of the cycling competition is to select the best cyclists for 2010 in Cambodia,” he said. “It is also to promote peoples health care as well as to develop the cycling sport in Cambodia.”

The aim of the cycling competition was also to promote tourism in Cambodia as well as to promote the development and progress in the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Bun Hoeurn said that there were different awards and prizes for the participants of cycling competition. Those who rode very fast and won first place of the competition received a gold medal, along with some money, the second winner received a silver medal with an amount of money, and the third winner received a bronze medal with an amount of the money.

He added that the medals and prizes were generously provided by the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport. ///
